Musical Movements

House Influences: I would add Avicii to this group because most of the music here is different and doesn't really have a defined style. Avicii is similar to this in that their music is different than most other styles that were popular at the time when this was released. He uses a combination of live instruments as well as some electronic beats to create his music. The music in this category has a more repetitive nature than most, and Avicii does this as well. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Cp6mKbRTQY Virtual: I would Alvin and the Chipmunks to this group because they are a group of animated chipmunks that are a band. They have multiple movies, albums, and television shows based off of them. They even went on tour. Technology plays a huge role for this group as in all of their movies and television shows, the actual chipmunks need to be animated. The voices of the actors need to be altered to a high pitch state as well in order to sound more like chipmunks. Out of the categori

Video Art Porject

For my video art piece, I took the idea of how life is short and made it into a video. I took a video of a metronome ticking at 60 bpm as the pace and cut clips of objects around my dorm as well as videos of my friends throughout the semester to play on the beat. By doing so, I hope to convey how moments in life are truly brief and why we should enjoy life while we can. https://youtu.be/CU6nXv6G86U

Performance Art

Yoko Ono, John Jessurun, and the flash mob pieces were the performances that stuck out the most to me. The sit in that Yoko Ono and John Lennon held in their hotel room was extremely unique and helped to convey the importance of peace within society. John Jessurun created beautiful dance pieces that provided audiences with entertainment. and convey meaning through dance. The flash mobs provide entertainment, like John Jessurun, and bring people together to enjoy music and dance. All of these pieces are designed to bring people together. Ono and Lennon held the sit in in order to teach the world that peace and unity is the answer rather than war and division. Jessurun and the flash mobs are designed to bring people together through entertainment. Technology is essential to all these pieces as it allows them to be spread and viewed by a wider audience. Ono and Lennon would not have been able to share their bedroom sit in had there not been technology to share it. Flash mobs would not hav

Photocopy Project

Image
My inspiration for this project was flowers. I thought it would be interesting to try to make various flowers using different forms of my hand with my eye as the center of the flower. The background colors were inspired by Warhol. I thought that by making the hand flowers black and white, it would add an interesting contrast against the colorful background making them stand out more.

Grid Art Project

Image
I used tissue paper and poster paper to create this grid art of Cinderella's Castle with a Mickey Mouse in the center. I used the photoshop image below to create it. I took a picture of the castle with the mouse head in it and made a 30x39 pixel image. Since it was black and white, I then painted each pixel a different color in order to make the image come to life. I then took my poster paper and created a 30x39 cm grid where each square became a pixel. I would rip little pieces of tissue paper, ball it up, and then glue it to the grid in order to recreate the image. The finished product is seen above. The black and white castle is the original image that the grid art was based off of.

Importance of the Vacuum Tube

Vacuum tubes were revolutionary in terms of radio, television, and computers. In terms of radio and television, vacuum tubes were essential in terms of broadcasting. They gave these devices the opportunity to cast higher frequencies, allowing them to transmit signals that could be received worldwide. As technology advanced and the vacuum tubes are tweaked, the signals become more clear and more reliable. Eventually, ships are able to use radios over morse code to communicate between one another. Vacuum tubes in relation to computers were important, but highly inefficient. The early computers required many vacuum tubes and consumed massive amounts of electricity because of that. Transistors have now replaced the vacuum tubes for all of these devices as they more efficiently transmit signals than the vacuum tubes.

Flipbook

The concept for this flipbook is inspired by the book in which it is created in: 1984  by George Orwell. The novel revolves around the concept of the all-seeing and all-knowing Big Brother, so the animation is a representation of that all-seeing being in the form of an eye, and the concepts that Big Brother revolves around appears around it to symbolize the brain washing that occurs within the novel. https://youtu.be/_IHaU7oidfc

Broadway Response

Angel de Quinta's blog was very interesting. It captured a unique outlook on Broadway songs and shows and the impact they have had over the years. Broadway has become a very unique form of entertainment that has taken the country by storm. There are select shows that everyone knows by name and if you have not seen them, you already know the plot. Chicago, Cats, Cabaret,  and Hairspray  are just a few.    Recently, Hamilton  has been the Broadway show that everyone is clambering to see. Ticket prices are extremely expensive and now that it is on tour, people around the country are fighting to get a seat at the local show. While I myself have never seen Hamilton , the soundtrack is one that is engraved in my mind, and I know the plot by heart. It is one of my favorite shows without even seeing it. I have seen a few different shows on Broadway itself, but my two favorites are Kinky Boots  and Waitress . Both shows have amazing scores that are fun to sing along to as well as convey mes

Response to Aria

The short film Aria  was quite interesting. It was interesting how at the end of the film the story seemed to begin again. It suggested that her pain could never truly end due to her being a puppet. Even when she was broken back down into the original pieces, she was put back together and forced to feel her pain all over again. It also provides a sense that we never truly escape our feelings, that we only learn to cope with them. Once we have rebuilt ourselves and return to our state of content, our feelings will come back to use again and we experience the pain we worked so hard to forget. The use of stop-motion animation to create this short I feel was also an unique choice. These feelings could have been easily been represented with real people, as the opera the film was based on had been. However, I feel that the ending would not have been as impactive had the film used real actors. The use of the stop-motion animation made the ending much more symbolic and meaningful as it drew a

Response to Incognito Interview

While the human brain functions similarly to one another, each person's brain is unique. I find that to be an interesting concept as Dr. Eagleman applies it to the criminal justice system. He proposes that the addition of neuroscience to the criminal justice system will allow for a more effective system of punishment. Chemical imbalances within the brain can cause people to commit crimes. Many people don't view this as a possibility. We tend to hear of the horrendous crime and immediately assume that the criminal is an evil and despicable person. We don't take the time to analyze and see the outside circumstances. If someone has a tumor in their brain that prevents them from processing their actions, we cannot truly blame them for the crime in which they committed. Other people are born with a chemical imbalance. Punishment may not be the way to solve their issues. They may need therapy or other forms of help in order to prevent them from doing something like this again. If

Creativity in Everyday Life

Most of the time we think of creativity as something that relates solely to the arts. However, creativity is truly apart of our everyday lives. Conversation is a simple way in which one can invoke creativity. Discussions with another person or other people can open your mind to different view points. It provides you with a widened perspective of the world. Creativity can also allow you to overcome various issues within your daily life. Whether they be large or small, creativity is at the heart of how you overcome them. What one person may tell you to do in order to solve the issue may not be the way in which you would go about doing so. Sometimes it takes a unique perspective to help you figure out the best way to solve the issue at hand. This allows you to become more aware of yourself as well. By using your creativity to create ideas, you begin to define yourself. No two people are exactly alike, and your creativity will work in ways to create ideas that other people may not have tho
