Broadway Response

Angel de Quinta's blog was very interesting. It captured a unique outlook on Broadway songs and shows and the impact they have had over the years. Broadway has become a very unique form of entertainment that has taken the country by storm. There are select shows that everyone knows by name and if you have not seen them, you already know the plot. Chicago, Cats, Cabaret, and Hairspray are just a few.  Recently, Hamilton has been the Broadway show that everyone is clambering to see. Ticket prices are extremely expensive and now that it is on tour, people around the country are fighting to get a seat at the local show. While I myself have never seen Hamilton, the soundtrack is one that is engraved in my mind, and I know the plot by heart. It is one of my favorite shows without even seeing it. I have seen a few different shows on Broadway itself, but my two favorites are Kinky Boots and Waitress. Both shows have amazing scores that are fun to sing along to as well as convey messages that we can all relate to. Kinky Boots tells the story of a failing shoe factory that turns to building stiletto heels for drag queens as a way to save the business. The underlying message of the show revolves around acceptance, and that is something that in this day and age, we should all strive to achieve. Waitress tells the story of a waitress who finds herself pregnant and in an abusive relationship. She uses baking pies to help her get through all the hard times and begins to look for a way to leave her husband. the underlying message of the show is that there is always a way to turn things around and make things better. It serves as a reminder that even in the bleakest of times, one can find happiness again.
